What is Chair Yoga

Chair Yoga is an adapted form of traditional yoga. The focus is around feeling connected to your body, stretching your neck, arms, legs and other extremities. It has many benefits including physical strength-building, balance, flexibility, and even reduced stress and improved pain management. This form of yoga won’t leave you exhausted. Instead, chair yoga should leave you with a sense of strength, openness, and the satisfaction of doing something wonderful for your body. Perfect for all age groups and fitness levels, the unique advantage of chair yoga is all movement can be performed while seated in a chair. In fact, it’s possible to do a full chair yoga workout without needing to put on special clothes, break a sweat, or take a shower afterward.

Class structure: 60 minutes of gentle movement

• 10 min: gentle warm up of joints.

• 40 min: while seated, you will be guided through different poses and gentle stretching movements that help to strengthen muscle and core, and improve your balance.

• 10min: conclude the class with meditation & relaxation.

Suitable for:

• Beginners, limited mobility, post surgery.

• All levels of fitness across all age groups and genders.

• Pregnant participants.

What to wear:

• Comfortable clothing – you need to be able to move freely without clothing hindering or restricting movement.

• Bare feet, socks or sneakers are recommended during the class.

  • Yoga mat if you have one

  • A block or strap is used in some classes. Students will be advised if one is required.

• Water bottle.
